OPEN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

JANUARY  – MARCH 2021

Compared to the regular class, Open High School Program started the class a week later. OHSP students were able to accomplish the tasks given by their teachers. They submitted their assigned activities, answered modules, and expected outputs to their subject teachers right after the Christmas break.  A copy of each accomplished activity was also submitted to the class advisers.

A virtual meeting of the class advisers and subject teachers of the OHSP was also held during the first semester of the school year. It was done to discuss the performance of the students during FB messenger classes. It was also an opportunity for the teachers to talk about and agreed upon ideas on how they were going to motivate and encourage students who seldom attended classes.  The agenda of the meeting were as follows:

  1. Monitor of submitted outputs and attendance of the students,
  2. Submission and checking of Grading Sheets, Class Records,
  3. Teacher-made Modules and Activity Sheets,
  4. Schedule of the Release of Cards; and,
  5. Deliberation of teachers for the students who will be promoted and who are no longer in school.

As per agreed upon by the class advisers and subject teachers, students without written outputs and have not completed the activities would still be given a chance to accomplish until June. Teachers would also give remediation activities to be done in an ample time for the students, per grade level, to accomplish all the assignments and modules.

MNHS -OHSP BEST PRACTICES

In the spirit of the government trust to provide quality education to all students, especially the out of school individuals and as a respond to the department’s Education For All (EFA), Masville National High School adapt these practices to help the  OPEN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM Students and for them to be promoted to the next grade level:

  1. ACADEMIC RELATED • Remedial / Curative online Classes – To lessen failures and drop-outs of OHSP Students with academic problems. •
  2. English : Remedial Reading with close supervision of English Teachers and adviser
  3. Math : Math Clinic • Monitoring and Strengthening Class Supervision with math teacher
  4. Modernization of the teaching-learning process through the supervision of the OHSP Advisers and subject teachers such as: voice clips and video lessons created by the teachers, and online monitoring through video calls and messenger classroom
  1. Strategies
  2. Use of Gadgets for online messenger class
  3. Use of individuals’/ clienteles’ computer units at home, laptop, table and or phone issued by the school
  4. Saturday extension classes/ time sessions.
  5. Pursuance of the printing of modules through the MOOE Fund, and other donations from stakeholders
  6. Online Conduct of Orientation Program for parents / students before enrolment and every grading period during PTC
  7. Online Career Guidance orientation specially to grade 10 students

The strategies were supported by the Guidance teacher, who serves as the assigned adviser per grade level, to directly assist then interests, aptitudes, abilities, limitations, opportunities and needs as students. As advisers, they provided one best assurance that the students of OHSP would accomplish maximum growth and development in the light of their potentials – the assurance that gives the students the feeling of self-direction even in this time of pandemic. Online messenger classes were monitored by the teachers together with the grade level coordinators and the OHSP coordinators.

Another strategy that our school adopted was, OHSP students were guided through independent study. Advisers made sure that strengthening of school-family as well as school-community partnership have been constantly done and monitored.  Apparently, it is important that the school and the family and community should be harmoniously related so that students will perform well even in an online setting just like what we are doing this time.

Teachers in the OHSP Program also conducted home visitations, google / messenger room meetings, with the parents of those students who were: not performing, who seldom attend online classes, and with lacking outputs. Continuous monitoring of students per class adviser per grade level every quarter was also practiced, to make sure all the students in the OHSP Program would get passing grades.
